Fit By 40 is my goal…

For the past 18 years my weight has crept up higher and higher until I was wearing a size 20 pants. Each year the closer it got to December I would always say “I need to do something about this weight”. I have tried Weight Watchers, LA Weight Loss, Slim Fast, not eating, various gym memberships and the list just goes on and on. This year I will be 40 and I am definitely moving that scale in the right direction.

In March of 2012, I was with friends at our small group and the girls challenged me to get up at 5:30am to join them for Insanity workouts. I thought…they must be insane, I can barely get my kids lunch packed at 5:30 in the morning much less workout. I was hoping they were just being nice to invite me…nope they were serious!! My husband joined in and agreed I needed to accept the challenge. Now Jon has never said anything negative about my weight; I think he was tired of all my complaints.

The next morning I rolled out of bed, brushed my teeth and joined the girls for Shaun T and his Insanity workouts. After the first minute, I felt like I was going to need a gurney to take me home. I was so embarrassed that I could not keep up with these girls but I refused to tell them. After about 2 months, Trina decided we needed to start running. What…Running…girls I don’t skip fast. The last time I tried to run I fell flat on my face at church rodeo event. Well that was then…We started meeting on Tues and Thurs to jog (I walked a lot) at the local high school track in addition to our MWF insanity workouts. By this point, I still struggled to get out of bed but I loved the way I felt. I felt like I was finally starting to accomplish something that was making a difference. And then…

I found CrossFit. At first glance it was pretty intimidating. I decided to check it out at one of their free workout days. I went with the idea that I was just checking it out, no commitments. I was honest with the owners and said I can’t afford the membership and wished them well.  Later that evening Dawna, one of the owners called and said I had won a free month membership. WOW I didn’t know what to say other than, WOW!! I accepted the free month and became hooked instantly. I have to admit my endurance is still lagging but I am finding that inner athelete that is begging to come out. I will write more on our workouts in the near future..for now just know that there is something for everyone at CrossFit. I am becoming stronger, mentally, emotionally and physically.
